Greetings Sistas & Brothas. I’m back with your weekly infusion of current jazz.
Since May of last year, corto.alto have been steadily releasing bedroom-recorded tracks on their YouTube page. The collective created by Liam Shortall, one of the most prominent Glasgow scene’s young talent, shines by exploring new jazz territories with a Hip-hop mindset. After releasing two volumes of their Live From 435 series, the gang is set to drop the third installment later this month.
Back in 2015, Wynton Marsalis and his Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra welcomed a then 81 year old Wayne Shorter to celebrate the music of one of the few Jazz greats who are still with us. The result, entitled The Music Of Wayne Shorter, is set to be released on January 31st and basically a Big Band clinic.
Four years after his latest project, guitarist Jeff Parker is ready to release his sixth solo effort and second for Chi-town’s unavoidable International Anthem Recording Company. “Gnarciss” provides a head nodding groove, mixed with electronic tweaking sounds and delicate wind and strings arrangements.
Be also on the lookout for dope new stuff by France’s own Léon Phal Quintet and Underground Canopy.
