This show makes the first episode I’m focusing on jazz music and let me tell you that I feel like I’ve found my pocket. It’s obvious that (young) jazz musicians are very inspired right now which gives me kind of a “renaissance of the genre” sentiment. Maybe I’m just too hyped haha .. either way, the music I’ve discovered this week is bracing.

I had to big up my homie Midan who eventually dropped the jazz infused chill-hop jam “Sevilla”, his first track ever with some help by Ddob and Letsuo. You can listen to the conversation we had a few months ago here.

Drummer Makaya McCraven has been granted the honor to give a fresh spin to Gil Scott-Heron’s ultimate record. “Where Did the Night Go” is off of We’re New Again : A Reimagining by Makaya McCraven, part of the 10 year celebration of I’m New Here which was released on XL recordings.

After releasing A New Cycle back in november 2018, Sepalot brings back Matthias Lyndermayr, Fabian Füss and Angela Aux for a second Sepalot Quartet‘s project. NOWNEXT which features “Tocole” is set to be released on April 17th.

If you know me, you know that I’m a huge fan of Paris’ own Walter Mecca (probably my favorite french producer). His latest release is the 5-chapter exploration into Fusion territories. It’s a jazz minded project but the Weirdata label’s boss still manages to keep his own groove intact.
